Holiday Cheer Lunch (HCL) is a Scotland Youth Development charitable event. Established in 2017, HCL provides a free meal, fellowship and gifts to Scotland County, North Carolina residents in need every December. Through meal delivery and a communal dining experience, we aim to spread cheer, enliven spirits and build community one meal at a time.
On Saturday, December 13, 2025, we will joyfully serve our HCL family (i.e. participants). Holiday Cheer Lunch offers three meal options: home delivery, pickup, and a festive sit-down lunch. We primarily serve senior citizens and do our part to contribute to their well-being and safety.
Ideally, we will distribute 150-200 meals this year. This year, we will feature a special recognition program for local veterans and supporters. To help achieve our objective, we are seeking friendly UNCP students to serve as greeters, meal servers, and general program assistants. Depending on the expressed need, there may be an opportunity for two-person teams to deliver meals to homes. (Note: This role requires a valid driver license and insured vehicle.) Prior to the event day, a mandatory volunteer training will be conducted via Zoom.
