Description

Greetings!

The Museum of the Southeast American Indian is looking for volunteers to assist with Lumbee Homecoming, July 6th, 2019. We typically host 1,500 visitors during the week of Lumbee Homecoming. If you have a love of learning and teaching, enjoy working with kids, like to make folks feel welcome, are curious about engaging with our local community, please join us, if only for a few hours. We will provide you with all of the training that is needed to help you be successful. We have scheduled wonderful opportunities this year that will help us continue to foster a vital relationship with our community.  Be a part of welcoming home our family and visitors from all over the country and share in the beauty of what is “Lumbee Homecoming”.

Here is how to get involved:

Welcome Desk- Greet visitors and assist with way finding throughout the museum.

Children’s Discovery Center Activities- Free craft activities for our youth.

Museum Store- Assist shoppers with purchases.

Floater- Be a helping hand that ensures that all aspects run smoothly.

On July 6th, we will be open from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Please consider spending those 5 hours with us or at least two.  In exchange for your valuable contribution of time, you will receive a 40% coupon to be used in our Museum Store.  Lunch and Refreshments will also be provided on July 6th for all volunteers.

We will be offering volunteer training sessions on June 28th from 2 – 3:30 p.m.  If you cannot make that date, please contact us and we will arrange another time to meet with you.  There are so many of our alumni, faculty, staff and community people who have a real passion for our history and this is your opportunity to get involved here at the Museum and really take part in some great programming that will help educate our visitors.  Please consider sharing your talents with us.

For more information on getting involved, please contact Alisha Locklear Monroe, Museum Educator at 910.775.4455 or alisha.locklear@uncp.edu. We look forward to connecting with those who are interested in sharing our rich history.
