Volunteer to support Habitat for Humanity of Scotland County fund raiser to build homes. The annual event, http://www.biketobuild.org/, includes bike routes of 10.5, 21, 32 and 64 miles and a 5K Walk/Run.
Volunteers (25 & over) are needed to drive portions of the route to assist any riders that may need help. This usually means conveying the rider and the bicycle back to the base – the Dulin Center at Scotland Memorial Hospital. So a truck or SUV is preferable, but all drivers will be equipped with walkie-talkies and cell phone numbers so that if your vehicle is not large enough someone else could drive to your location to help. We call these drivers our SAG (Support and Gear) drivers, but we don’t actually provide and repairs or gear. Each route has rest stops so if we get enough drivers each driver will only need to patrol between two stops. Once all of the riders have passed that area that driver would be done and could come back to base for lunch.
