Description

Robeson County and Scotland County and surrounding area residents: You're invited to share your views about local issues that matter to your community -- and tell news and information organizations how you want to be informed. Join the NC Local News Workshop, Carolina Public Press, the Border Belt Independent and UNC's Carolina Demography for a community conversation about local issues and news and information.

We'll share a light dinner at 6pm and watch a short presentation about how demographics in the Border Belt area of NC are changing. Then you'll be introduced to journalists who want to hear directly from you. We'll break into groups to discuss:

  • Local issues that are important to you and your communities
  • How you find out information, and the sources you trust
  • What kinds of news and information would help residents work toward solutions
  • How challenges accessing the internet, and other economic factors, affect your ability to access information you need.

This isn’t a panel discussion. It’s a conversation where everyone will have a chance to be heard.

This event will not be recorded or broadcast, but event organizers will share what we hear from you with news and information organizations, so they can better serve and engage with your communities.

The event is free, and dinner is on us! But please register by Aug. 26 so we can ensure we have enough space and food for everyone.
