Who We Are

The Transit Center Mentoring Program is a grassroots project and an arm of Crossed: The Youth Law Center geared towards providing individual and group mentoring to youth ages (9-18) in Robeson County, NC, specifically in the Lumberton township. Most youth in Robeson County who will need these services include minorities, both male and female, and youth who reflect moderate/serious school behavioral programs; who regularly associate with negative/delinquent peers; who reflect a high risk of entering into the juvenile justice system; who have marginal parental/family supports; and whose family is engaged or has been previously engaged in the criminal justice system.

What We Do

The Transit Center Program will create an effective mentoring system, providing youth with group mentoring based on Sean Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" self-esteem and skill building model and individual mentoring based on the Mentor's "Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring 4th Edition." Further, The Transit will provide social support services by connecting youth to appropriate social service programs connected with program. The change that Transit is targeting includes a decrease in family criminality, a decrease in the number of juvenile complaints filed by law enforcement; an increase in school graduation rates; and increase in prosocial youth behaviors and activities within the Robeson County community.
