Who We Are
The mission of [ASO] is to bring fellowship and unity among the African students on campus and those who wish to learn more about the African culture. This organization aims to promote the African culture on campus and in the community. ASO seeks to accomplish this mission by networking with a circle of diverse friends, especially minority organizations on campus, ASO-UNCP intends to break stereotypes through education and leadership.
What We Do
In terms of events, ASO-UNCP will host an educational series titled “Breaking Stereotypes,” with hopes to nullify any bias or misconnections that people may have towards the continent of Africa. As part of “Breaking Stereotypes,” we plan to join forces with other organizations on campus to create events that would allow our fellow peers to become more knowledgeable about diversity. We will do a fundraising event in which African products would be sold on campus. ASO-UNCP plans to collaborate with other African Student Organizations in North Carolina to enlighten others about the African culture through entertainment. Finally, ASO-UNCP will have an annual African night on campus in which we will have an opportunity to share the African culture with fellow students through traditional dance, food, and fashion.
