Description

We are seeking volunteers to help with our Youth Life Skills Program live streams and videos to the Pembroke Housing Authority and Public School Systems. If you have a passion for teaching and kids please offer a helping hand. Please see the Virtual Workshop Guidelines below before volunteering.

Guidelines for videos:

  • Each video should be at least 5 minutes but no more than 10 minutes long.

    • The topic of the video should be based around one or more of the following topics.
      • STEM (Robotics, Simple Machines, Natural Disasters, Energy, Environment, Space)
      • CIVICS (Voter registration, Importance of Voting, The Candidate’s issues)
      • HISTORY (UNCP/LOCAL)

  • Culture (Local, American Indian)

      • READING LITERACY (Reading fundamentals, Grammar, Reading Comprehension)
      • ADULT LIFE SKILLS (Financial Literacy, Healthy Living, Career Exp./Develop)
      • YOUTH LIFE SKILLS (Career Prep, Health & Nutrition, Money Mgt.)
    • The videos should target a specific age group. A science experiment involving quantum physics would not be appropriate for students in kindergarten, likewise reading Dr. Seuss to adults would not be recommended. This entails using simplified language to better help the students comprehend your lesson/activity/experiment.
    • Show enthusiasm and keep a positive attitude to help students stay engaged for a longer amount of time.
    • Make videos as engaging/interactive as possible. Use editing software to include quizzes and questionnaires.
    • Keep your video professional. Please dress professionally or wear UNCP gear when recording your video.
    • We ask that you record in a place where there is no or limited background noise.
    • We have a space designated to create videos in Wellons G Suite. We ask that you use that space as much as possible.
    • Music should not be added to the videos unless you have the full rights to the music.

  • YOU MUST UPLOAD CLOSED CAPTIONS TO ALL VIDEOS.

  • Have accurate knowledge of the topic you will be discussing. You will be teaching; therefore, you will have an impact on people’s education.
