Students from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) actively serve as mentors for youth at the Pembroke Housing Authority through partnerships such as the UNCP Brave Foundations mentoring program. UNCP student mentors work with K–12 students in after-school settings, providing homework assistance, academic support, and positive engagement through games, activities, and meaningful conversations.
The mentoring program focuses on building strong relationships, improving communication skills, and encouraging academic success while also promoting confidence, leadership, and social development among participating youth. Transportation is often provided for student volunteers, making service accessible and consistent.
Through this partnership, UNCP students gain valuable leadership and community service experience while making a lasting, positive impact on local youth and families. The collaboration strengthens ties between the university and the Pembroke community and supports youth development in a safe, supportive environment.
