What's Up Braves?
I'm Felicity Jackson, a freshman here at UNCP majoring in Psychology
with a minor in Studio Art. As a proud first-generation student, I am excited to
be a CARE ambassador and the official artist for the CARE Resource Center. In my job, I
help keep CARE up to par and uphold a warm and positive atmosphere. I will
be sharing the impact that working here has had on me as an individual and the UNCP
community.
I've been with CARE for two semesters, and the first has been
incredible. Being a freshman who had just recently moved to North Carolina was
stressful. This, a busy schedule, being a part of the Maynor Honors College and
in the 2024 line of Orientation Leaders is a lot, but working with CARE has
allowed for the calm time I desperately need. CARE allows me to build my
social skills while allowing me the freedom to make my on-campus events
centered around my love for Pembroke, in and outside of campus, and the
arts.
Choosing UNCP was a spiritual choice. Several colleges accepted me,
but it was during a warm summer afternoon campus tour that I realized this
was where I was supposed to be. The warm atmosphere and the kind faces
are what make UNCP so unique from other colleges. For the short time I've attended
it's been apparent that this is home.
Participating has been essential to my incredible journey. Taking the
initial step, whether via clubs, organizations, or jobs on campus, can seem
intimidating, particularly for introverts and Freshmen. Before I started my
Freshman year, during Summer Bridge, I learned about the life-changing
impact of involvement. This Campus is what you make of it, and that's what
helped me grow personally.
My advice: Prioritize organization, time management, and self-care
while embracing new experiences and seeking support when needed.
Getting involved in campus activities, staying curious, and setting goals are
crucial for personal and academic growth. It's significant
to build relationships and stay true to oneself amidst the challenges and
opportunities of college life. By remaining focused, balanced, and true to your
values, you can maximize your college experience and pave the way for future
success.
Don't forget about us over at Dogwood Lane. We are here to help you!
